Trained as an engineer, Aren designed electrical systems for the built environment including healthcare facilities, retail spaces, and military bases. He then shifted his career into finance where he conducted economic analyses for investment opportunities for Pacific Gas Electric. Aren analyzed long-term financial forecasts for one of the largest investor-owned utilities and helped to seek out threats and opportunities in the energy industry. Aren joined Bloom Energy in December of 2020 as the Director of Market Strategy to bring this long-term thinking into the fuel cell industry.
